Meet Ben Sions and Matt Kelly, the founders of Safe Ops, and the route-risk intelligence behind RRSM for fleets, insurers, and mobility platforms

About the Founders of SAFE OPS℠ | Ben Sions & Matt Kelly

The founders of Safe Ops

Safe Ops was built by two people who came at fleet risk from opposite ends — the strategy and the engineering — and met in the middle on one idea: you can score a route's risk before a driver ever leaves, and use it to prioritize lower-risk routes and build a documented, defensible record. That idea became the Route Risk Scoring Model (RRSM), and it's patent-pending.

Ben Sions — Co-Founder Ben is the strategist behind Safe Ops' "operationalizing safety" approach — translating actuarial and operational risk into tools a fleet can actually act on. He originated the core idea behind RRSM: that a route's risk can be scored before the trip, so fleets can prioritize lower-risk routes and document the decision. Ben leads the founder ground-truth review that keeps the model honest.

Matt P. Kelly — Co-Founder Matt is the builder behind RRSM's validation. He leads the historical crash modeling, road-structure analysis, and rolling-origin back-testing that underpin the model's credibility — the work behind RRSM's benchmark result: a risk ranking shown to meet or exceed the established standard on a national fatal-crash back-test. Matt owns the shadow-pilot and verification process that turns the model from a claim into evidence.
